Our names are changing

Making it easier to find the right care

Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics is now MTHC, and our service names are changing too.

It’s a simpler way to find our services, get the support you need and experience more of what MTHC has to offer.

More connected care

A change for more connected care

We’re bringing our services together more clearly under MTHC.

You’ll notice new names and branding, but this is about more than how we look. It's part of making it easier to understand what MTHC offers, find the right service and access additional support when you need it.

And while our names are changing, the people, experience and service you know remain at the heart of MTHC.

Melbourne Teaching Health Clinics is now MTHC

We’re using MTHC as the main name for our organisation.
Our purpose, people and services remain the same. The simpler name better reflects everything we do across healthcare, education and research.

Our clinic names are becoming MTHC service names

The individual clinic names you know are also changing.
The team, services and clinical expertise remain the same. The new names make it clearer that each service is part of the same organisation.

Why we’re making these changes

MTHC offers a broad range of health services, but our different clinic names have not always made that easy to see.

Bringing our services together under MTHC makes it simpler to understand who we are, what we offer and where to go when you need support.

It's part of a broader focus on making your experience with MTHC better – from finding the right service and accessing care, through to understanding what other support may be available to you.

Our specialist expertise remains. We’re making it easier for you to access more of it.

Frequently asked questions

Why am I still seeing the old clinic name in some places?

We're updating our names gradually across our website, signage and communications. You may see old and new names together for a while during this process.

Can health professionals still refer in the same way?

Yes. Referral pathways haven't changed. Healthcare professionals can continue to refer to our services in the same way. We’ll also continue to recognise our previous service name during the transition.

If you're ever unsure, you can check with the service directly.

Does MTHC still run teaching health clinics?

Yes. Teaching remains an important part of what we do. We provide teaching clinics where clinicians in training deliver care under close supervision, as well as services delivered by fully qualified clinicians.

The type of appointment available depends on the service you book. Check the service pages for more detail or chat with our team when you’re booking your appointment.

I have appointments booked under the old name. Do I need to re-book?

No. Your appointment isn't affected by the name change. Your booking, time and clinician stay the same.

You might notice the new MTHC service name on appointment confirmations, invoices or signage.

Can I still contact the service in the same way?

Yes. Our phone numbers, email addresses and service locations are the same. If a contact detail is changing for any other reason, it'll be updated on the relevant service page.

Who do I contact if I have questions about this change?

Talk to our team, we're happy to help. Contact us at mthc-marketing@unimelb.edu.au.

Will this affect my Medicare or private health fund rebates?

No. The name change itself won't affect the rebates available for your care.

Medicare and private health fund rebates will continue to depend on the service you receive and your individual eligibility or level of cover.

If you're unsure about the rebate available for your appointment, please check with our team or your private health fund.

Is a referral written for the old clinic name still valid?

Yes. You don't need a new referral just because our service name has changed.

We'll continue to recognise referrals using our previous service names during the transition. The usual requirements for your referral, including any applicable validity period, will still apply.

If you or your referring health professional are unsure, please contact the service and we'll help.
